What is Spam?

Filtering Email

A major problem with Internet mail is SPAM.   It is intended that JAMS should support filtering based on recipient, sender or message header/contents.  However it should be possible for third parties to implement their own filters to either replace or augment the standard JAMS functionality.

Currently there is no design for this part of JAMS but some ideas are outlined below for the type of filtering that can be carried out.

Input Filters

Recipient

tbd

Sender

  1. Is the sender's domain a valid domain
  2. Is the sender's domain on a barred list
  3. Is the sender on a barred list

Subject

tbd

Message

Output Filters

Address Rewriting

Message

This is a bit more intrusive and may be covered by wire-tap legislation.

  1. Are there barred keywords used in the message?
